About Kala

Hello! I am a sculptor, jewelry maker, and multi-media artist from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I have been making art and exploring my creative side for as long as I can remember, and enjoy working with hand-on materials such as clay, wire, and organic materials. I graduated from The University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in ceramics, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I have always been attracted to the morbid side of life. I am interested in preserving life after death by incorporating bones, teeth, and other oddities in my art and jewelry. When I'm not in my home studio, you can find me relaxing with my three cats, and listening to true crime podcasts.

About My Work

My work can be divided into six loose categories:
- Ceramic-based, multi-media sculpture
- Wire wrapped bone/tooth jewelry
- Curated mystery oddity bags & boxes
- Oddity/Horror themed miniature scenes
- Oddity/Horror themed print
- Oddity/Horror themed collages

My ceramic work is heavilly influenced my psychology, the human experience, and identity. I hand-build my sculptural work, while acknowledging the relationship between my fingertips and the clay. I respond well to imperfection in my work, as I strive to create sculptures that have an obvious human touch. I enjoy telling stories through clay using text, color, imagery, and texture.

Ever since I was a child, I always had a fascination with the macabre, the unnatural, and the mysterious. I remember looking through my grandpa's stash of "Ripley's Believe it or Not" books that detailed shrunken heads and people that could shoot a bow and arrow with their feet. I translated my naive delight for the unusual through my art today. The process and the care that goes into each muskrat skeleton display or each coyote molar necklace is intentional. My goal is to respect the beings my art once belonged to while expressing the beauty of life and death.
